The
SAPEC
treatment was injected into only one furnace of a 25,000 lb/hr twin chain
grate boiler. The
left hand side furnace was treated with SAPEC whilst the right side
furnace remained un-treated. Both grates worked at identical rates and for
the same period during the demonstration. When the boiler was
taken off-line the following photographs were taken at the beginning of the
first section of tubes.

Boiler
operation and coal quality are the main variables in determining boiler
fouling. By
treating only one side of the boiler we ensured that the two main variables
were the same for both furnaces. Therefore the reduced deposition in the
side that had been treated, was totally due to the effects of the SAPEC System
