Boiler-plant:    10 off Babcock & Wilcox 180,000lb/hr traveling Grate Stokers

Problem: Very short operating periods because of the poor quality of coal and problems with operation.

RESULTS FROM USING SAPEC

Extended operating Periods from 8 weeks to 21 weeks.
No fall of in output despite boiler using 22058 tonnes of coal compared to normal operation cycle 8400 tonnes a 262% increase.
Boiler cleaned in 5 days instead of usual 21 days

Boiler-plant:    20 off Babcock & Wilcox water-tube boilers with traveling grate stokers. Designed MCR-180,000lb/hr now de-rated to 150,000lb/hr.  Coal 430,000 tonnes per annum (Grade D Delmas coal)

 

RESULTS FROM USING SAPEC

Extended operating period from 700 hours to 2400 hours
increased boiler availability from 48% to 88%
Achieved fuel savings of over 10%
Dramatic reduction in cleaning times
