Controlled tests

The initial trials with the SAPEC system were carried out with the assistance of British Coal. During the initial trials that were aimed at assessing the reduction in flue side deposition, changes were noted in the products of combustion, subsequent observations and analysis of the fly ash showed:

Existing bonded deposits became detached from the flue-side heat transfer surfaces and were easy to remove.

No bonded deposits were formed on the flue-side heat transfer surfaces subsequent to the use of the powder.

The deposits in the SAPEC boiler were soft and lighter in colour. The character of the deposit was completely different to the deposits found in the control boiler.
The carbon content of the deposits were reduced by as much as 64%.

Clinker formations in the ash did not fuse into hard slag and broke up easily.

Boilers doubled operating periods and still had at least 50% less deposition on the Heat transfer surfaces.
